if you havent seen Joshua E behind the decks lately, there is good reason. He’s been keepin things brewin behind the early 20th century roaster at Passion House Coffee Roasters. For our latest edition of Common Thread Joshua will be rejoining longtime collaborator and cohort DJ Shugar behind the decks for fun night of Techy and House Beats a la Chicago Style!

As always, Common Thread takes place on the second Thursday of the month, at Passion House Coffee Roasters. There is no cover for this event and it is open to all ages, so come on out and socialize with us on May 10th from 7 pm to 12 am.

Show starts at 9pm and there is no cover all night long.

DJ Schugar is an artist, musician, and producer. From large scale production to one man and a sound system in a warehouse, DJ Schugar does it all. Beginning with his Michael Jackson Thriller, DJ Schugar was born a dancing music-aholic and record junkie. Raised on the likes of Abba, Neil Diamond and the Beatles, it was the Midwest rave scene of the early ‘90s that truly captured his soul. Unable to resist the psychedelic sounds on the dance floor, DJ Schugar was into everything techno & house music had to offer in no time at all and has never been the same since. DJ Schugar has created and destroyed every type of music at least once, dabbling in everything from noise and avante jazz, to ambient and intelligent, to house and techno.Interested in every aspect of art, music, life and soul, DJ Schugar pulls inspiration from everything he sees, hears and experiences – from the wind blowing to the grinding of industrial equipment to the thump of a heartbeat. A wealth of artists inspire him, including Richie Hawtin, Osunlade, Dub Taylor, LocoDice, Sonic Youth and Cock ESP to name a few.Schugar is a multifaceted dj, sculpting dance floors with his varying styles, blending music that has been described as organic, minimal, deep, dark and experimental to create a signature sound. Schugar straddles genres and breathes adventure onto the decks, giving every party a life of its own. He currently has residencies in San Diego at W Hotel, The Ivy Nightclub & Dr. No’s Fantasy. Besides his weekly and monthly residencies in San Diego, DJ Schugar has played across the United States, Canada & Mexico in some of the hottest venues of North America.

The experience that these three gentlemen bring from behind the turntables, yes I said turntables, expands nearly over two decades. From North to South and East to West, you can bet that one of them has already been there, played there, and done that (typically more than once.) Currently enjoying the unique synergy that the trio have found playing together every Sunday evening at Plush, in Austin,TX, they are happy to share their unique take on electronic, post disco, slomo, balearic, and psychedelic acid vibes with the world.
